May 2nd Tina and Freddy allowed me the honor of photographing their wedding. Sandbridge beach is a very romantic destination for an intimate gathering of friends and family.

I had the opportunity to take this family portrait on the beach last summer.  The parents let me know about this image they had had in their minds for years and this was finally the chance to pull it off.  I enjoyed co-creating this arrangement with the family.  I know it meant a lot to them.  I love working in this manner.

Okay it was a little windy that day.  But this faily loved their portrait taken in Sandbridge on the beach.  I think people feel a lot more relaxed when they have photographs taken on the beach.  It feeeeels like you’re on vacation whether you are or not!

After we photograph family portraits at the beach in the dunes, it’s time to get more relaxed photos of children on the beach.  Running, Jumping, hugging.  It’s what children are all about.

Family Portraits at Sandbridge

While I am at the north end of Virginia Beach on weekends, quite often I am down at Sandbridge Beach anytime Sunday thru Thursday during the summer photographing extended family groups, immediate families, children both in casual poses and candids.  I am amazed at how many fun groups come from all over the US and abroad.   Many families come  for reunions or just their annual vacation together.  My biggest groups last year were close to 40.  Awesome…bring it on.

It was a blast…a new adventure and more.  Was I uncomfortable and nervous?  You bet ya!  But I have learned over the years not to let that stop me.  This keeps me feeling alive and growing.

I am planning on being backon the show sometime in July.  I will be talking about family beach photography.  It’s a natural topic to discuss as eventually most people will want to have a beach portrait if they live or visit here.  I admit there is no other place like it.  People are more relaxed and comfortable at the beach over most other places I have photographed families or children.  Perhaps it’s that vacation feeling you get from just being there!

Never discounting for a moment the awesome value of having a great professional portrait of your family or children, there are many wonderful images unfolding everyday in your life.  How will you ever remember the beauty or the sponaneity if you don’t take great photos.

Your memories more often than not are relying on your pictures! Get better!!!!

Wrapping up the ducks and bunnies-not literally!!

Anyway, the parents of these 3 had a mission last summer when they came to Virginia Beach for vacation.  They wanted a beautiful family portrait on Sandbridge Beach and a portrait of each of their children for the wall.  Most of the family portraits I photograph in Sandbridge are extended family groups so it was a neat change of pace to focus on a single family for the entire session.  We had a wonderful time.  I love my beach studio!

Welcome!

I’ve been holding out on a blog for a little while.  It’s a committment and I just wasn’t ready.  And now I am! There is so much going on that I want everyone to  know about.  So, I invite you to check in from time to time and learn what’s happening.

Today, for instance is the 2nd day for Duckling Pictures.  Too stinkin’ cute.  I just completed a session with 2 sisters and several Daffys.  It’s a good thing we had an hour.  Having pictures taken with baby duckys sounds great when you’re at home with Mom…then to find out they are real, and they move and do a lot of pepping….well it can be a little intimidating.   We took it slow…that means the ducks left for a while.  We played, which I’m good at and eventually everything came together.  I love winning!
